p0013 and p0014
 

I had a p0013 code on my wife's 2010 hhr. I replaced the exhaust vvt solenoid, and cleared the code. Everything seemed fine but after a hard start, it is now throwing a p0014 code. I did an ohm test on the solenoid before replacement. (do not remember the exact values but determined it was bad through this) PLEASE HELP!!! I. at a loss and have hit the wall on this car. Runs fine, just have an engine light that won't go away.

I don't understand your dilemma. They are different codes for different faults.

P0013 is intake. P0014 is exhaust.

I've read up on both codes and from what I can find, the same part could be at fault for either code. My dilemma is, that I do not know where to go from here. p0013-"B" Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit (Bank 1) p0014-"B" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1). Why would p0014 come on after p0013 was fixed?

Both refer to the "b" or exhaust side

What about the camshaft position sensor ? Not the solenoid.

no big deal, but Donbrew was a little off on the codes vrs exhaust (it happens):
P0010/11 refers to the INTAKE solenoid
P0013/14 refers to the EXHAUST solenoid

So you replaced the right one.

Some questions for you:

Did you disconnect the negative post of the battery for a 15 minute period to reset the code?

If you did, are you sure you got the connection at the top of the solenoid re-plugged ok - and did not damage it trying to disconnect it during the replacement (that clip is a pain)?

Did you get a genuine GM replacement or an aftermarket one?

Sorry about pre coffee mistake.

One could show up after the other is fixed because one was masking the other or a wire got messed up in the repair process.

Oh tell me about the coffee thing - I'm just finishing the first pot here. LOL Gotta get a kick-start in the morning.

Thank you all for the replies.Donbrew, I'm all too familiar with pre coffee mistakes. I did not disconnect the battery. Maybe that was the problem. I'm sure that I replaced the right solenoid, as it is stamped IN and EXHAUST on the valve cover. I have another solenoid and will make sure to disconnect the battery tonight when I do it. Thanks again everybody. I'll update tomorrow
