P0016 code. Sensor or something else?

Hello, this is my first post on this forum. My fiance's 2008 HHR LS recently just had the check engine light come on. My cheap (and somewhat reliable) code reader said P0016, confirmed this with AutoZone.

We bought the crankshaft positioning sensor but realized that there is also a camshaft positioning sensor. Upon further research, it said it could be something else.

What is the best course of action?

Very likely a stretched timing chain or broken timing components. Do not crank the engine, there is risk of destroying the engine.

You can remove the valve cover and inspect the timing chain. It should be tight.
