How could I have overlooked the fact that the camshafts have to be removed in order to change the guide seals?!? Closing back up, try again next weekend!
My hope is to remove the timing tensioner, then remove the TTY bolts and carefully pull the phasers away from the camshafts. Then I can remove the camshafts. Gotta figure a way to hold the phasers safely in place. Looks like the rocker arms just sit in there, not attached to anything. New TTY bolts have been ordered from dealer. I'll want to set it at #1 TDC, of course.
I know best practice would be to replace all the timing components, but... If this doesn't fix the oil consumption problem, and the real culprit turns out to be pistons/rings.... I'm gonna be wanting a new engine.
I don't want to put more time/money into this engine... and replacing the seals AND the timing set would take more time than I have in a weekend.
