Park does not engage in the transmission when shifter is in park
 

My son has a 2007 hhr with a 2.2L. He was recently in an accident where he hit a curb. He is fine, however the car suffered. The passenger side strut, control arm, sway bar link, cv shaft, right brake hose, oil pan, wheel and tire, and inner tie rod end were all damaged. The steering knuckle was broken in half. I've gotten all those parts replaced with relative ease. Now when the shifter is placed in park I can still roll the wheels over by hand. Could the parking pawl have broken from the impact? Could the linkage have become disconnected? Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Glad to read he is ok!
Check the shifter linkage under the console and under the hood , it may have been damaged on impact.

If after checking the linkage for damage, and you do not see anything, then yes a sheared Pawking Pawl is a possibility.

Not really a DIY fix, so it would by time to fine a good used 2007 model year 4T-45E transmission.

Wondering if the car was towed, unattended by owners, to a repair facility. Not unusual for a half donkey towing company (or new untrained employee) to pull a vehicle in park onto a roll back.

Doesn't provide an explanation of problem......but maybe it does.

a dang good point Snoopy, I've seen a few parking pawls go to "Transmission Heaven" courtesy of the Bubba Gump Towing & Recovery Co.

"Goober" is a general term here in the Southland Oldblue, I'd never denigrate the memory of the late George "Goober" Lindsay, he was a really sweet guy the two times I met him.

Or Bubba Gump either for that matter. He had nothing to do with towing:wink:

There's a '50 Studebaker tow truck that makes the rounds of the car shows here in NC db, proudly sign written on the doors is "Bubba Gump Towing & Recovery Co."...so I'm not picking on anybody.
