Part# for steering shaft?
 

Anyone have the part # for the steering shaft that rattles (intermediate shaft)? I tried the search but it didn't turn up anything, even though I know it has been discussed a thousand times.

WHat is the part #?
How hard was it to install?
Pictures/how to?

All I've got is the part number. It's 25834100. No experience with installation.

The cheapest price I could find on this is from GMpartsdirect.com, part number 25834100 ($114.49 currently +ship). As far as the installation goes, it is not that hard to put it. The biggest problem is just lining back up the steering wheel once you put it in. You want to bolt the shaft to the steering gear, and just leave the top unbolted until you get it right so that the steering wheel is straight with the wheels, then bolt it in. It will take a few times adjusting the position of the top of the shaft with the steering column and then test driving to get it right.

UGH! Just realized it is probably not the intermediate shaft since the rattle is obviously inside the cabin and not outside. That didn't cross my mind until I saw the service manual procedure. My rotors are so warped that when I hit the brakes it is vibrating the wheel and the shaft above my knees is making noise, not the INT. shaft outside the car.

Stupid brakes.

Well, I had that similiar issue too about 2 years ago. I figured out that the nut that connects the steering wheel shaft (Top) with I Shaft was loose. The nut is located just below the steering wheel. I just used a 1/2" socket to tight it, and fixed it. I also had the stupid rattle everytime that I pressed the brakes, and the steering wheel Vibration too...

Add me to the "where is the rattle" discussion. I have a 2010 LT that I hear a rattle up underneath the driver dash/steering column area when I go at really slow speeds. For instance, driving in a parking lot and there are some uneven spots. I also get a squeak and barely noticeable thunk when I turn the steering wheel back and forth. I am going to take it to the dealer but if anyone can provide input on what I should have them look for I would appreciate it. Maybe something loose in the steering column? There is no noticeable rattle when I am at full speed.

It's probably really a 12mm......

I checked it today, bolt was tighter than a snare drum...its something else, but I don't know what yet!
