Pioneer Premium Stereo "Whoomp"
Sorry if I'm beating an old dog with this thread but, I have a service call lined up for Monday morning regarding my HHR's audio system.
Intermittantly, I get a low "whoomp" sound when I start my stereo system. (Sometimes this begins with the system crackling, followed by the initial "whoomp".) It usually occurs when I'm listening to the radio. Then, when I push channel selections, I can hear the low-level "whoomp" each time I depress a button. The volume is also effected by this. In order to get this to go away, I have to press the power button off and on - sometimes up to three or four times - to return it to normal. Naturally, when I called the local Chevy dealer about this, they had never heard of such a thing. Rather than go in unarmed, I thought I'd pick your collective brains on this one and hopefully avoid having my vehicle disemboweled. I'd appreciate any information you can provided. Thanks in advance... Brad Anchorage, AK |
This sounds like the infamous audio system crack or radio pop problem.
There is a TSB for it. See the description in this thread: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/problems-service-repairs-42/old-recall-tsb-number-post-1919/ There are some threads in this forum about it. Do a search for crack. Here is one of them: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/problems-service-repairs-42/pop-goes-radio-1159/ |
Thank you very much, Black Rose. I really do appreciate the prompt reply.
Sincerely... Brad |
One more thing, Black Rose. How does one access the TSB data? It appears that it's only accessible by authorized technicians or dealerships.
Thanks. Brad |
You can't access TSB's without a subscription anymore. sorry

Thanks, Mike. I'm hoping that the dealership has access. One never knows.
