Welcome to the site!
First did the CEL come on indicating a code?
Have you checked the ground wires or the fuse box halves?
Did anyone jump start the car, possibly burning out a fuse or two?
Is the positive terminal on the fuse box under the hood tight?
Does the starter solenoid click when you turn the key to start?

Welcome to the site

I agree check the fuse box under the hood. They are known to vibrate loose.

aboard!

I'll second the responses above, but the replacement of the fuel pump seems odd to me, like an over-reaction.

Unless it was a rural grade crossing and your HHR bottomed out hard enough to damage the fuel tank/pump assembly.

I'd like to know your Hubby's thought processes there, he kind of "threw out the refrigerator, because the light burned out", a very expensive and probably unnecessary repair.

Fuel pump also has the fuel pump regulator with the assembly. Was only getting 40 psi before we changed the fuel pump. Put the other fuel pump on getting over 60 psi now. Getting good fuel psi, compression, and spark. Have checked fuses as well. Still can't figure out what's wrong with it. It's driving us both nuts trying to figure out what it could be.... He said he also checked grounds and battery. Still won't start.

The way I was taught to troubleshoot a non start back in 1963 when I first started with a car was as follows:
- Dies it crank, fast enough to start the engine?
- Is there fuel of sufficient pressure?
- Is there spark, checked by pulling one of the plugs?
- What happens when you spray in a shot of instant start stuff (no ether now days) and crank it.
- What happens if you pull the battery cables and cause a reset?
- Does the car have a "crash module" or as my F350 fuel system had a valve that shut of fuel flow in case of a crash and the dealer had to redo it?
- Does the HHR have one of those anti theft sensors in the ignition module like the Malibu does so the car can not be stolen? The Malibu model has had a lot of trouble with them?

You best bet at this point is to get your hands on a scan tool or at least a code reader.

I didn't know how many miles you have but it could have jumped time or have an electrical problem not firing the injectors ether can be seen with a scan tool.

If the timing jump you will get a code for cam and crank correlation.
