Check for an exhaust leak before the first oxygen sensor (this is unlikely to cause the problem, but it is possible)

This would be at the flex pipe

Any leak between the MAF sensor and the oxygen sensor.

Are you using an oiled air filter?

A word or 2 are left out of the description. Add "fuel trim" to the beginning. That means the computer is adding fuel to the mix to compensate for too much air in it.

Air is getting into the system somewhere between the MAF sensor and the #1 O2 sensor. Could be a leak from anything attached to the intake manifold a cracked flex pipe OR the other possibility is not enough fuel from the fuel pump.

Check the fuel pressure, the flex pipe, the EVAP purge valve (should be normally closed), all the tubes running tot the intake side, MAF sensor, the clamps on the air tube to the throttle body.

Are you saying you cleared the code and it comes back?

You changed a lot of parts. Were there other codes or problems, or was the P0172 the only one?

Is your motor a 2.2 or 2.4? How many miles? Any other recent history? How well does the car start and run? Any smoke, hesitation, sputtering, etc?

That would be the entire engine. It's nothing more than an elaborate air pump. What are you driving at here?

Did you even think of checking fuel pressure?

He is driving at unmetered air. Do you know the word "stochastic"? Or the ratio 14.7:1?
The OP replaced the fuel pump in the carpet bombing. Evidently, he was playing at being a SAE certified tech and blew off any testing in favor of replacing every part listed in some internet article.
