Power steering, antitheft

My 2006, drive it 5 blocks, the power steering warning comes on then anti theft. Power steering is fine, but in that limp, hard shift, don’t go more than 5 miles an hour mode. No check engine lights. Does it the next day also. Where do I start?

Start by tightening the 4 bolts in the under hood fuse box, they are 7 mm , then push all fuses and relays firmly into place.

No check engine light could be a bad bulb or dash connection. You should check for trouble codes with a code reader. With the problems you described, there should be some codes in there.

Check the battery voltage and connections, including the battery connection on the fuse box. On the fuse box there should be 2 wires (from the battery and to the starter) on the front lug and 1 wire (to power steering) on the lug closest to the firewall.
Any work done on the car just before this started?

These 4 bolts, note the single wire on the top left, that’s the power steering motor connection. The 2 wires Donbrew mentions are under that red flip cover on the lower left of the fuse box

ugh electrical gremlin, but I must have scared him away with a few bad words and a bunch of tears. 62 year old single very broke female. Tears come with car repairs.

new battery in October. I disconnected the battery let it sit while I gave the car a good clean, (couple of hours). hooked the battery back up. Started and let it sit running in the driveway. Anti theft, then power steering warning, then check engine light. Unhooked again, fished putting everything way. Loaded everything into the backseat….closed the hatch. Ugh. Let it sit for a couple of hours. Read the posts…….. ok, ugh had to unload the back seat and be a contortionist to get the battery hooked up so I could open the hatch…hooked up battery. Checked fuse box, pushed on all the parts, checked nuts, Negative battery cable by box looks crusty/rusty. But nothing loose. Started up, let it sit for a bit, drove it around, about 3 times as far as the other day.

worked fine. Like I said gremlins. Thanks for all the help.

There is no negative battery cable at the fuse box. A positive cable up front and the smaller wire in back is the power steering positive wire.
If the wire looks rusty or corroded at any of the connections, they should be disconnected and cleaned thoroughly.
“Nothing loose” doesn’t matter if it’s not making good contact.

Ugh just drive it around the block, and it happened again.
power steering notice comes on - working
antili theft - gauges jumping., shift hard
check engine light. I will have to get a code reader.

in October I had anti theft problems, changed out the ring module, and battery, has been working fine.

now what?

I have a couple other questions maybe it’s all related the button on my gear shifter has not worked for years. I end up having to just pull it into gear no big problem. And then to get my key out i.e. depress a little button up under the steering column. My son thinks that spilling some thing in my shifter years ago might be what’s causing the problem. Could there be something with that? Can I take the shifter out and clean connections?

Now tighten the 13 mm nut on the positive terminal on the left lower side of the fuse box , careful it’s hot with 12 volts from the battery

It’s under the red cover there on the lower left of the box

Did that yesterday when the battery was disconnected. It was not loose.
