PSI reading different or is TPMS failing

I have a 2010, LT 2.2L... On the instrument panel I get a PSI reading of 26 and once I check it by hand. I get a reading of 37 which the other three are reading. My question is it the TPMS failing or what could be wrong. Had new rims put on about two months ago and this is the one that Discount Tire cant program. I don't have a key fob to reprogram it. Some times it reads 0 PSI and a mile down the road it will read in the mid 20's.

6 year old car, that sensors battery is most likely at the end of it's life.

Just curious. What's the reasoning for running your tires over inflated ?

Discount Tires set the PSI to 35. By morning, its down to 32 PSI and anywhere from 36 to 38 by the time i get home. The Sensors were just rebuilt by Discount Tire. What should the PSI be in the tire. All info stickers on that tell me what the tire PSI should be are gone. Been like that since I bought the car.

According to the door sticker, my 2007 LS's Tires should have 30 PSI, cold with a trip they will heat up a bit, and read more PSI, so just check your tires cold only!
Many tire shops inflat to the side wall max pressure reading usually 35 PSI

Your LT maybe different

I guess looking in the Owner Manual would be too much trouble? They are available online, look at my sig.

The OM says to look at the load sticker on the door frame.

I believe it is illegal to sell a car that does not have the stickers on the driver door frame. They are "essential safety equipment". They can be purchased from GM.

When you check the pressure manually, are you checking them all? The positions on the DIC will be wrong.

Why would you pay for "rebuilding"? Did you look at the kit they use?

The valve stems don't need replacing unless they can prove they are rotting. "Rebuilding" is putting a new stem in and screwing the sensor onto it. They remove and replace stems for free on non-TPMS wheels, parts are normally $1 - $2 each. The ONLY difference is that they are supposed to use a torque wrench to screw the sensor on, which I doubt they really do. The stem costs about $0.50 more. End of rant.

If this is a mal function immediately following a tire monkey touching it, well, he did it. A low or variable reading should not be caused by the battery.

On many 2010s you cannot reset the positions manually, but you still need a fob and a special tool.

When I purchased the car last August. I got no key fobs, no owner manual, sticker on door frame but it is blank. As for Discount rebuilding the sensors, i did not see them do it (taking there word for it).

Take it back to Discount and let them sort it out.

Your 2010 1LT with stock 215/55R/16 front and rear tires should be inflated to 30lbs. cold.
Spare should be 60lbs. if you have one.
I have that exact car and that is what is on the door sticker.

I have mine set at 30 front and 28 rear cold.
On a 90 degree day, that psi goes up to 34-35 and that is around town driving up to 45 mph.

and if you are looking for a key fob replacement, check this thread on the ones that you can program yourself rather than take it to a dealer (ie: save some serious $'s)

Well checked the tire pressure. The LF, LR & RR all 35psi. The RF is 25PSI. How can those sensors read it wrong? Thanks Silverfox for that info and Whopper on key fob info. Forgot to mention that the LR was reading 25PSI from the instrument panel.

Because the POSITIONS have not been reset. The car thinks that the wheel that is on the RF is on the LR, since that is where it was the last time anyone reset the TPMS.

So, it is working correctly. You have a tire that needs air. And go to a GM dealer and order a tire placard for your VIN.
