Random Stalling Issue
I have a 2006 Chevy HHR, with a 2.2L Ectotec 4 cylinder engine. For a month and a half now, the car has had a stalling out issue.
It mainly occurs in the morning, right before work, when the engine is warmed up, and idling in park. I have had the issue occur, later in the day too, and also while in drive and idling. I have been to three different service shops, including a local Chevy dealer. The first diagnosis at the Chevy dealer, was a loose oil cap. This turned out to be false. The next diagnosis was the throttle body. I had the throttle body cleaned, and the mass airflow censor cleaned too, as they were both dirty. The car still stalled out again within a few days. I have also replaced the battery, and starter during this process. The car is still stalling out, it did it again this morning. I also ran Lucas Fuel injector through the gas tank one time. I don't know what to do next. Fuel pump and filter setup? Fuel injectors? CO2 censors? EGR Valve? Map Censor? Looking for sugestions and help here. Please and thank you in advance to anyone who can help. Also the check engine light has not come on, and the vehicle always starts right back up. |
Moved to your own thread.
Just stall? the dashboard doesn't light up just before? No EGR valve to worry about. Routine tests would be fuel pressure, compression and leak down. Have the ignition recalls been completed? All of the sensors have DTCs for malfunctions. |
x2 what Donbrew says.
Air cleaner filter been replaced recently? Sparkplugs old? |
Welcome to the site, you have cleaned your throttle body and MAF sensor. Check to ensure you have the correct spark plugs AC Delco 41-103.
Have your battery and charging system tested Have your OBD II port checked there might be pending codes. I'm thinking ground wires loose and corroded . |
The spark plugs aren't that old, replace them 20 - 30,000 miles ago, as for the air filter gonna double check that by this weekend. The ignition recall was been taken care of for a while. What is a DTC?

Diagnostic Trouble Code.

The check engine light does not come on even after the engine quits. The DIC does not show anything either.
|
My only remaining guess is a bad ground wire somewhere.

donbrew, should he check fuse #24 Sensing and Diagnostic Module(interior fusebox). Would a bad fuse there cause the CEL to not light? Would fuse #33 Emissions(underhood fusebox) do the same?

Based on my recent experience with a bad relay, that's the first thing you should check before spending a cent on your HHR. Swap them around and see what happens. Costs nothing, takes a few seconds. There are 6-7 of these on the car and their points wear out over time (carbon build up + oxidation)
