Reading codes?

Is there a way to flash lights on the DIC to read codes? I can get the actual codes out of my Seville but I know on some cars you can get the engine light to flash to get the codes.

I've got an engine light on for some reason that will not go off. I assumed it was from my locking gas cap not sealing right. So I unhooked the battery last night and when I started the car this morning the engine light came right back on. PLUS, a couple of times today I got a POWER STEERING message on the DIC. I had never seen that before. I didn't even know the HHR had electronic power steering.

If I can get the codes maybe I can figure out which direction to go with this thing. Thanks.

Only the Cadillacs have/had the code reading capabilities.

Wrong. Others HAD the capbilities yrs ago. Some older Chevy's back in the '80s you could put a jumper wire between pin A & B on the connector under the dash and the CEL would flash the code . Been there, done that.

Only before OBD2 Like years ago!

SONGMAN you can go to Autozone or any of the auto parts stores and they will CK the code and give you a print out of the code and the system.

That had already been stated by the OP. I didn't see the need to repeat it.

I was only stating that Caddy was not the only car that you could read the codes off of as someone stated. Hence the quotes. Over at this end.
