Reduced Engine and engine light
Reduced Engine and engine light
I tried to find other posts about this but there are so many posts to go through, so I thought I'd ask the question. Thank you if you can help.
I have a 2007 HHR LT, 2.2L. About 3 weeks ago, my husband was driving home from work and the "reduce engine power" light came on, then the engine light came on. He couldn't go very far, so he coasted it in to the nearest garage at a Firestone center.
We do have a regular mechanic, but it was not going to make it that far. He left it at Firestone and rented a car. They said the would put it on a diagnostic in the morning.
Firestone called the next day to tell us it was the throttle and it would cost $1,700. There was no way. We paid the $90 for the diagnotic and had our mechanic come tow it to his shop. He soaked the trottle over night and cleaned it. MUCH cheaper than $1700.
The car ran wonderful for 2 weeks. I used it for work the other night and it was fine going in to work and leaving. I made a quick stop and when I started it up, the engine light came on. I did not lose power; and it drove great. Half way home, the light went out. It stayed out until today, 3 days later.
It was fine for my husband to work; coming home not so much. The engine light came on, followed by the Reduced Engine Power light. It started running really slow and rough. He stopped at a store to give it time to rest for about 15 minutes. When he came out, the reduced engine power light was off, but the engine light stayed on. However, the car ran really well the rest of the way home, thank God.
What is going on? Is it time to replace the throttle? Or could it be the sensors? We're late for a oil change, would that change it? Also, if we replace the throttle, do we really have to buy a new one? They are so expensive. Is it okay to buy an after market or a used one?
ANY advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Penny

I'll look to see. It was some kind of throttel code. Does this site have a list of the codes for 2007's?
Thank you
Thank you
