HHR ss won't start and won't release key

I haven't had the hhr but for about 2 months. I really like the car and want to figure out whats wrong. I drove it fine engine light starting coming on but would go off after while then I was on my way home stopped to put gas in and then when I turned the key I heard a pop and I was dead in the water. Lost power to everything and wouldn't release key. have any of you had this issue and know how or what to fix.
thanks

Key stuck. There is a recall/service notice for the HHR's to replace the defective ignition key cylinder. Have you had yours replaced by GM? If not, contact your local Chevy dealer.
Engine light on. When this light comes on it means something is wrong. You should have the trouble codes pulled to get the numbers. These codes help to tell what the problem area is. Did you get the codes read? We folks on the good old internet can't help you much without a code number.

Question

I actually did get them read but nothing came up and the light went off then the car quit no nothing. I just heard from guy who has it he said he replaced the main fuse and got it started hooked it back up and its still not reading any codes but when he cut the car off and went to restart it it blew another fuse.

Electrical faults like that are notoriously difficult to diagnose. I dont recall reading anything similar before.
I would check the starter motor circuit first, maybe look for an auto electric specialist.
If you got it from a dealer, get them involved to resolve this.

The ignition switch was not a 're-call' in the classic sense. Chevrolet set a notice to us that if you ever had an ignition switch problem that it would be replaced at no cost. This would not show up in the list of recalls.

I think I remember that if the car goes into ant-theft mode the key gets latched. It would go into anti-theft is the power suddenly goes out maybe?

As to why the lost power, leprechauns.
