2006 front power door regulator died

Wifey and I were on a trip, when she lowered passenger front about half way down, a loud bang (sounded as if someone had thrown a rock at her door)..
I pulled over, open the door, placed the glass between palms of my hands , lifted glass to close, the glass stayed closed and we finished trip.
The glass stays and shows no sign of falling, been concerned about further damage to regulator or related parts so I haven't as yet tried to lower glass via the switch, or take a look by attempting to remove interior door panel...
any suggestion that I shoud do, the HHr has 120K miles on it so I'd like to do a repair myself, or possibly a glass rather than dealer

When this exact "thing" happened to me (another type vehicle) I found it to be the pully drive tape.

I completely understand about wanting take care of this on your own. I hope things will go smoothly and I am sure you will get this resolved.

Here's a link to a vendor who carries the window regulators, although you don't have to buy from them, there's also an imbedded YouTube "How To" video on the page that you can expand and watch.
