Replacing Sensors
 
I have a little of 60,000 miles on my Lt1 and I was told by the dealer that a senor needed to be replaced as preventive service, but I know which one. Once I find out I would rather take it to my mechanic.I need to know if anyone out here knows what senor's need to be replaced at around this milage. Also I'm thinking of ordering R1 concept disc's and pads. Good or bad???

Can't help with the sensor question, but I have 22,000 miles on the
R1 Concepts rotors, and they are still smooth as glass.

I've never heard of replacing a sensor as preventative service.... (I'm alittle confused on how this line of thought came about).... It's a wonder some salesman didn't come runnin' over to you to give you the same B/S line! "Brakes worn, tires worn....My God you need preventative service, buy a new car"

Unless the check engine/service engine soon light is on, your emission sensors are fine. Don't replace them. And I wouldn't go back to that dealer either. They sound very shady.

My former Jeep ('92 Cherokee) had a built in timer based on mileage to get you to change the O2 sensor every 100000 miles. It came up as a: "service engine soon" message, which of course triggered as I was on a trip 1000 km from home. I had to inquire to find out if this was a serious engine problem or not. I didn't think these still needed to be replaced no matter what.

What does the owner's manual say?

Thanks everyone...
I had to take my car in because the shifter was stuck... so you know how they take all apart and put back together and then tell what was wrong. Well they said a senor might need replacing. Now that you said o2 " stranger" it might be that. Thanks Cajun...I think I'll order them today.

Might? If a sensor is bad, it will trigger a CEL, run bad, or worse, not start. :lol:

I'd run as fast as I could from there.

I had an 84 Nissan, I remember reading the owners manual where they had a section about a SES light coming on at 100K or something high like that. Their instructions were to take it to a dealer, where they disconnect the sensor (no, the manual said they didn't replace it, they just unplug it)

I talked to my mechanic and he said the o2 senor is the one that needs replacing at around 90,000 miles. I need 21,000 to go so..... It would run $ 290 to fix because it has 2 senors. I hope this helps someone out here.

Shouldn't the O2 sensor be covered under the emissions warranty..?
