Replacing Shift Assembly 09 HHR

Hi All,

I bought a new shift assembly because I need to fix the key stuck in the ignition problem. The dealer has already fixed for free the ignition itself just in case that was the problem (it wasn't).

Can anyone tell me HOW to remove the old assembly?

It's for 2006, but it helped me with my 2011.

yep. Just finished. Took me and my son 1 hour.

Here are the pain points to avoid.

1. Cut the old wiring off. It helps you remove the old wiring harness later.
2. Use a wrench with teeth to gently pull the yellow plastic shift arm off the assembly.
3. Pull the housing seated into the front of the housing straight up.

When installing:

1. Put wiring harness in first.
2. Slide the housing from front to back through the seated hole in the new housing. Those strange wings give you a clue as to the direction.
3. Fit the new shift arm on.

Finally,

Do what you can to raise the old floor bolts and tighten the nuts. We only could get 3 back on but it is still firm to the touch and has no play in it.

I was just getting ready to tell you to use the search box, there is a thread about the replacement job, including tricks for the nuts.
