Searching Code P0171
I have an 08 HHR with a 2.2 engine. I bought it 2 months ago with 68,000, it now has 72,000. The check engine light came on last week (car still running fine) and I finally got it scanned. A PO171 code came up. I don't remember exactly how it was worded, something like, Bank 1 Lean Mixture so I replaced the front O2 sensor, cleared the code but noticed it still wasn't running quite right. Lacking some power and a very slight surge while driving. I only drove it 15 miles since the O2 sensor was installed.
When I started it the following day it was running horribly. Sounded like it was running on 1 cylinder, would not rev, stall but would restart. The check engine light also started flashing, which I'm thinking is because of the multiple misfires. If I let it idle (as rough as it does) it will all of a sudden straighten out and run on all 4 and I now will be able to rev the engine, but if I put it in gear or shut it off and restart it, it goes through this same process again.
Any thoughts?

Hopefully it isn't the fuel pump - that can be expensive. Does it also take a longer time to crank and then start? Check https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...ighlight=p0171
A quick use of the SEARCH tool at the top of the page gave lots of links to look at, like the one above. A few of them suggested taking a reading on the fuel pressure in the fuel rail, but that takes special tools, and isn't really a DIY procedure.
But, use the Search tool and look for the code - by the way, the code is P0171, not PO171 (big difference).

I don't think it's a fuel pressure problem. I put a gauge on it and it had 50lbs pressure. I don't know what it should be but from my experience that should be adequate. It doesn't seem to take longer to start. I'll keep at as time permits and let you know what I find.

Fuel pressure: using the SEARCH tool, I found several references to the specs being 50-60psi. If anything you maybe a bit on the low side - would be interesting to monitor it a bit. good luck - do keep us posted on your findings.
