Just got this alarm on my HHR SS. Has anyone else gotten this? My right front tire is not reading. Where is this sensor?

It is inside the tire. May need replacing.

 

It's a warranty item. Take a pic of the error and the -- reading. It will probably go away before your dealer visit and then return later if they do nothing. At least with my dealer the picture evidence has been enough to get it replaced so it won't happen again. This has happened with 3 different sensors on my car. I have had no problems with them in almost a year though...so I must have had a bad batch.

 

I would just try reseting it first. Mine was reading just fine then went of so I reset the system and its no long on.

 

Maybe Chev Mgr can find the bulletin. If you do a reset, make sure you are not near any other cars which might have TPS. If any other sensors are in range and transmitting, your car could mistakenly learn the other sensors.

 

Its easy to reset the sensors-found the info right in my 09's manual. Took less then 2 minutes. Yes 2 minutes-had to because if it takes you longer you have to start the process all over again.

Had to reset them not due to problems, but because I rotated my own tires and the computer has to know the new tire locations...

 

The error message should go away upon restarting the engine. It is usually just a RF signal interruption and will reset itself by cycling the key off-on.

 

And often comes right back if the sensor is bad... Since I had the problem sensors replaced I have never seen this error. It's been nearly a year. If you see the message more than once, something is wrong.

 

I guess I'm just lucky. Mine is almost always the same wheel position,no matter which wheel happens to be there and mostly near the same spot of road (near Quantico MCB/FBI Academy, and a no-stop highway truck weigh station) any one of which I can imagine RFID interference, and I have a laptop with wireless turned on most of the time and cell phone. Anyway, in my case there are too many other things going on to suspect expensive equipment failures.

Actually the msg I get is "service tire monitor" I think, implying signal loss to the RCDLR. That lives in the bump in the headliner above the rearview mirror.

 

That's the same error I had with a bad sensor, but it would not immediately reset by turning the car off and on like yours does... it would loose the tire reading for most of a day, and then maybe get it back for a day or two before losing the reading again. One of them also did some weird stuff like dropping the reading 4 or 8 PSI in an instant and then a few minutes later popping back up to the accurate reading. It sounds like the error can be caused by bad hardware or interference.
