solenoid on shifter failing?

ive noticed the key, brake pedal, and shifter are all on some kinda selenoid. the key wouldnt ome out after you turn carr off. so i had to take ignition apart and remove selenoid. but then my shifter failed to pop the button on the knob out after you shift to d from p. so if you arent careful you could bump the shifter bak to p wil your driving. anyone had issues with this yet?
the quality of this car is so poor that my 1995 nissan is more comfortble of a vehicle. i am very disappointed in these hhr's now and this is my second one over the years.

yes I had this problem with my wife's hhr... We took hers to the dealer and got it back the next day with a new shifter free of charge.. (works great ever since..) hope that helps...

As for the overall quality of the car, I too owned a Nissan (02 Frontier crew cab) and i believe the quality of the HHR is by far much better than the Nissan's... just my .02

Take it to the dealer. I had the same problem and they replaced the shifter. Is it under warranty?

I was having problems, but I can't see how changing the shifter assembly would do anything. I know that the Solenoid is included with it, but the solenoid is not the problem. At least in my issues I have had with this. Try to rock the shifter handle back and forth when in park. That shoul get the button to pop out again. I was almost going to remove the assembly and then route a litle bit out of the shift pattern on the sides of the assembly so that the shifter would go a hair more forward to activate the solenoid.

No recalls on this.

If you take the shifter apart you will see the plunger is not traveling up and down it's shaft as designed. Usually we find soda or something sticky in there. Cleaning it up might fix.
