Sporadic Gears Slipping

Hi Everyone!
I was wondering if anyone could help, Some times my car will hard shift from 1st to 2nd like a hard slam, some days it’s perfectly fine, other days all 1-2 and 3-4 do it. I can’t find any patterns. Currently no codes show, a few months ago we changed out the Cam shaft position sensors and both input and output actuators. Few days later... same thing. Car has 120k on it, well maintained, transmission fluid changed about 100k.

May or may not be related, I started to get a bad shake in the steering wheel, but this too is sporadic. Whole suspension was just redone, and steering knuckles and alignment so none of those are it. I was reading somewhere that the slippage and shaking can be a signs of a damaged oil line.. anyone experience this.

Truth is I love my Herschel HHR... but I’m afraid to put a new transmission in if it isn’t the problem,

Anyone have similar issues, if so, how did you fix them.

Thanks everyone!

Welcome to the site, it can be a number of things, chaffed wires , loose ground wires, loose connections at the TCM.
perhaps a battery lobotomy will reset the computers.

it usually happens when the computer cannot read some indicators, but you do not have error codes ...
Perhaps a professional dealer scanner will identify the problem ...

I bet there will be a pending code if you go to the local auto parts place and have the OBD read.

What are input and output actuators? Why did you replace them? Why did you replace the camshaft sensors? Does the AC work?

Like I sad before. Car forums are good for information on how to fix the problem. Not how to find it.

X2. Have the codes pulled again. Sounds like the classic case of an overlooked or didn't show code.

The hard shifting is generally the way the car tells the owner "Hey somethings wrong. Have it looked at". It's part of GM's programming that supposed to get the drivers attention......Usually does when it hard shifts.

I would check to see if you have a fuel injector sucking air. Take a can of something, spray at injectors, if it gasps and sputters there is your problem.. Mine was doing the same thing... the tubber O-ring was shot
