Starting problem

Have a HHR 2011 when I put the key in and turn it, the security lock light and engine light comes on flashing and the ignition just clicks. Any idea what is wrong

Frankly, sounds like a battery problem!!

Especially if you are hearing just the usual clicking noise associated with a dead battery. JUMP it from another vehicle BUT MAKE SURE YOU CONNECT THE NEGATIVE CABLE CORRECTLY. It is not done as the average Joe would imagine. Check your Owners Manual for the correct method.

Then have the battery checked.

I'm really sorry to hear this and I would like to get involved and offer my assistance. Could you please private message me your name, address, vehicle identification number, and current mileage?

Thank you,

Is this the same key that used to work fine? If you got a new key you have to match it up to the car.

Sounds like a battery problem you need to measure the battery voltage with a voltmeter I had the same problem when the headlights did not shutoff all night mine only read 11.14 volts the starter relay only clicked, voltage should be over 12 volts, good luck.

I just started having the same problem with my 2011 HHR today. Started great first thing this morning, stopped and got gas and just clicked and had to get a jump. My husband dropped me off and it happened to him again. He went to an auto shop, they checked the battery, starter and alternator and all checked out normal. I have read on other sites that it could have something to do with fuses. Has anyone had experience with that?

If you had to get it jumped off and it was successful, then the battery must have been low. Sounds like the auto shop did not pin point the reason. Chances are you will have to jump start it again.
BE SURE that you use the correct jump start method as described in the owners manual. Failure to do so can result in those "fuse problems" that you referred to. Incorrect jump starting under the hood has been known to kill the electric power steering fuse and possibly others.
