Well, it looks like I joined this elite group. Everything is fine and suddenly the key will not turn back far enough to get it out . I still have the manual in the car and it tells you what to do if this happens. Tried it and it works, good thing...bad thing...after reading ALL the posts on this problem, I'm not looking forward to having it repaired $$$$.
It seems that this is a design flaw with the unit, another case of planned obsolescent from GM.

 

yes but once replaced there was never a return problem so far
