Sun Visor

Has anybody tried to remove the sunvisors? They use security torx bolts. Why not regular torx? Is there a need to protect them? Is someone going around breaking into HHR's and stealing their sunvisors?

Guessing only...LEE...

probably to prevent "tampering" because the insert the torq goes into is light weight, flimsy, cheap, unsuitable. Kind of like the roof rail inserts that members spoke of on another thread.

I must have missed that thread. Do you mean for the roof rack? I tried to remove mine, and one of them is not in tight and just spins preventing me from getting the bolt out.

I've had the driver's side off to try a mod (wasn't what I was really hoping for though). What's your plan?

To get rid of that blasted roof antenna. I need to pull the headliner down a bit to get at the bolt. My base cracked again, and my stubby got lost. I already put in an inside window amplified antenna which actually works great. So now I can remove the old one. If you check both the 2006 and 2007 Chevy brochure at the dealer, they edited out the roof antenna from all of the pictures. I guess they don't like it either.

What size wrench did you use?

You'll need a couple differnt sizes and a deep socket or and extension to get the base off. It's a real pain to remove. You'll need to remove both visors and the "mood light". The bolt is very difficult to reach and be very carefull of the headliner, its easy to crease. Oh yeah, you'll need to at least remove the bolt at the top of the pillar covers. Like I said, a REAL pain.

Actually it uses a special kind of Torx socket-a 'tamper' one, since there is a little nipple inside the center of the screw head. I borrowed a socket from a mechanic friend then replaced them with #7 screws. (The original one is 1 inch long, but 3/4 inch work fine.) Now I am ready to tackle removing the antenna (when it stops raining).

What will I find underneath? One big hole, or 2 small holes, or 1 small hole???
I need to figure out how to patch it up.

I suspect you meant this for a different thread. The new site design is a bit confusing.
