Suspension and electrical
 

Hi, i have a 2007 HHR LT. we bought it used and everything was ok the first week we had it, now the steering seems to have a mind of its own... one day its touchy, the next hard to steer, then one day it just for no reason pulled me into a ditch... the gauges tend to go "haywire" every now and then, and there is a loud banging or "THUD" noise going over bumps and its becoming less of a smooth ride and am starting to feel EVERY bump in the road..
ive taken it to the chevy dealer plus other mechanics and they havnt found any problems.. it makes me feel like im going mad... HELP!!

would after market suspension cure some problems? and what can i do about the electrical?

Push all your fuses and relays down.Check the battery cable connections under the hood

The previous owner(s) added a trailer hitch on to it, i think possibly they had it wired for breaks lights or something. im wondering would a short or crossed wire somewhere in there effect all the electronics or would it mainly stay to the tail lights, if there were a short..


Any recomendations for suspension? i know nothing of what is needed or anything.. i just want a low smooth ride..

Welcome to the site skltnjak, Check out the suspension section, my guess is the swaybar links, replace with moog's. I have a smooth low ride, went with SS springs and fe3 shocks. Or Kw V2's will do that too, a little more dough.:thumb:

If i get ss springs, do i need to get anything else if i just want to lower the back end of it?

Just putting the SS springs alone in back will lower it about an inch. Problem is you will have a mismatched suspension. Stiff springs in back, soft up front.

I would get that front end fixed and tightened up first. You need to replace the worn out and clunking parts.

I replaced the rear coils and shocks on it and it sits lower in the rear and over all is more even... but now i think i have a nother problem... its really bouncy in the rear... i got the coils from a 2009 hhr ss. i think my problem is where i replace both coils and shocks, but the shocks were for the exact model and year i have. i know if i keep it the way it is now eventually it will do more harm than good... i should just save and buy all new suspension, same brand,meant for the hhrs year and everything... at least on the lowering part.,.. am i right on assuming that?

so your using FE3 shocks on SS springs? yeah..too much spring for the shock..just get a set of FE5 shocks and all will be well..on the back side anyways....you'lll probably want to do the fronts too for a matched set ( springs and struts)
