Tcm question

Hello everyone.
I'm battling the U0101 code on a 2006 Hhr 2.2l. Previous owner did the ground wire to the tcm trick and that didnt work for very long. Currently going through the process of cleaning grounds and checking connections. Hit a roadblock with the fuse box, at some point two of the bolts holding it together were overtightened and now it feels like the brass I inserts are just turning inside the connectors. Any advice on getting the fusebox apart without destroying it?

Also while checking grounds with a test light I noticed that I had current through the body of the TCM. (Accidentally touched with the probe.) Is this normal?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site, remove the TCM extra ground. As for the fuse block perhaps an impact wrench like a Dewalt 3/8 inch impact driver will be enough to remove the bolts , turning by hand isn’t going to get it undone.
There is a ground in the TCM harness, maybe that’s chaffed and touching a live 12v wire , inspect the harness by the EVAP purge valve on the driver side end of the cylinder head.

Thanks Oldblue,
The youtube groundwire is already gone. I'll try again with an electric impact. Going to check the harness near the head now.

to the forums!

FYI, the bolt nearest to the firewall does not connect to the bottom half of the fuse block. It simply attaches one of the wire bundles to the top half of the fuse block.

Did you start with unplugging the TCM and inspecting the pins and contacts?

The body being the metal housing of the module? No current. Should be grounded.

Donbrew,
Yes I did, also checked ground on pin 49 on the harness. Checked for continuity between tcm case and pin 49.
Thanks

That doesnt make sense then. I still have good ground at the harness.

Got one of them out. Spun the hell out of it with the impact until friction melted the plastic a little, let it cool for a bit and tried a ratchet. Came right out. Seemed like a sketchy idea at the time, but if it sounds like a dumb idea and it works.............. No joy on the harness near the EVAP purge valve. Looks solid. No wear I could find.

The TCM case is grounded by the harness. No it should not be hot. The test would be continuity to a ground point.
