Ticking noise on new HHR 2.4

We just received our HHR 2007. It is one month old today. (standard transmission)

The first week we owned the car it was great. Road smoothly and was quiet as a mouse. Now there is a ticking sound and a low rumble, especially at highway speeds. It almost sounds like a diesel engine while idling in the driveway.

Does anyone have this noise? It isn't affecting the vehicles performance in any way, but the noise is annoying and of concern. We have had to turn the radio louder on the highway just to hear it and can't believe this noise is being produced from a new vehicle.

We have taken it to two GM dealerships now and the problem is not being rectified. We have been told that it is nothing to worry about and to continue driving it. If it gets louder to bring it back!

Hard to diagnose with the limited information....you ticking noise IS a ticking noise. Could be many things....lifters, injection, fuel pump, etc. Did any of the dealers venture an opinion?

Low rumble, tire noise, wind noise???

I'm sure you'll have many opinions, so check here frequently.

Is the ticking sound only heard from inside the car when it's idling? If so, it's likely the valves tapping. Ours does that when it is idleing or when we are at a stop light and have it in gear (automatic).

The rumble could be the tires.

Funny, I've never heard any kind of ticking noise on Wheelie....His engine sounds very healthy..=)...I guess Wheelie is just lucky. =)

Unhappy Ticking/rumbling noise in new HHR 2.4

Our HHR is one month old today. First week was great, then it started to make a ticking/rumbling noise - almost diesel sounding.

We can't get the dealer to fix it - he hears it but says nothing is wrong with the engine. We have been advised to continue driving the car and if it gets louder to bring it back.

Anyone else have this issue?

We have a 2.4 standard with no ABS. The ticking is heard on the interior - although outside when the car is idling it is quite loud compared to the initial week we had it.

The rumble gets louder at highway speeds. Since this is a brand new car with only 2000 kms on it, could the tires be funky already?

For the ticking noise....raise the hood and see if you can locate the source in there. Be careful of moving parts with the engine running (I personally suspect it to be a lifter).

Rumble....yeah, very possible to have a bad tire on a new car. But, not absolutely supporting that, as the problem.
