well, bought the timing/balance shaft kit in 2nd link I posted, and got this waterpump:
https://www.carparts.com/details/Che.../AWAW5092.html which was recommended by the tech I spoke to.
can anyone point me in the direction of a crankshaft bolt and cam sprocket bolt and how many of these I will need of each please ?
let's hope it all works out !
I wont know until next week, but Ill make sure to post progress as we go.

Our common parts thread https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/comm...-thread-48833/
But like I just said, you probably won't be replacing the cam sprockets.

and yea, that ACD was what I originally had planned on purchasing, but that price just put me off.

though Im sure your right, Ill get the bolts just in case.
I try and plan for most eventualities, better to have and not need than need and not have
thank you sir.

ok, sorry for another query
Ive gotten several different bolts when I search for the numbers listed with those bolts (both on the common parts thread and Oldblue's reply)
one of the sites was NAPA, which I know usually carries mostly OEM parts, so i decided that is where I should get the best match, however, Im getting 2 different matches, the bolts are wildly different. both say they are exact fit to the GM 2.2L 16 valve VVT ecotec.
also, the more expensive bolt is a torque bolt, while the pair of bolts states no special tools required....
here is a link to both, I need to know which one is the correct bolt please.
also of note, 1 of them comes with 2 bolts in the package (seems reasonable since 2 sprockets) the other, which is twice as expensive, is singular (which also sounds about right for any OEM product...)

People are always saying that the bolts are "torque to yield". The Shop Manual does NOT say anything more than "discard the old bolts"; The Shop Manual says that about all bolts over 12 mm.
Please show me a reference that says there are ANY stretch bolts on the Ecotec engine. The head bolts are NOT stretch, they just get replaced on General Principles. There is a difference between prevailing torque, torque angle, TTY, and stretch etc. even though they all may use torque angle specs. Just because the spec includes a torque angle does not mean you can't re use them.

NAPA does not carry OEM, Mostly their contract brands. They have a company like Dorman (I can't remember the name) that supplies the parts.

ok, Ill check rockauto, I have used them in the past and was happy with the products and deliver times.
fmG, I honestly do not know for certain, just going by things Ive read online, Ive read VVT was always part of the ecotec engine, Ive also read that it was introduced in 2008, and have read it was available for some models, yet not others of the same year. but I honestly do not know.
is it possible to find out with VIN somewhere ?
I think I have the bad habit of working backwards on things, I probably should have started with asking about VIN identification to know exactly which engine I have o_0
