Towing with a motorhome

We just got our HHR set up to tow behind our motorhome. the owners manual says you must pull the ignition switch fuse to prevent battery drain. We formally towed a Cavalier and did not have to do this. The dealer wasn't able to offer any explanation. It would seem that if the every thing is off (like radio's etc.) there would be minimal drain. Does anyone have any detail on this?

Pulling fuses may be a pain, but I would follow the manual. There is only 1 fuse to pull and I think it is number 8 but I am not looking at the manual or the HHR right now. I leave the little fuse puller attached to it all the time so it is easy to pull and replace. I have pullled mine for about 4000 miles so far and have had no problems. On my 98 Malibu you had to pull 4 fuses, so I think 1 is a better deal.

Yep, it's number 8 in the floor console fuse block.

Couldn't you just connect up your own little switch inline with the fuse so you just flip that when you tow? Sounds like a simple mod...

The automatic is towable, that is what I am towing. Tell him to read the manual. You can't tow them with a dolly, but you can tow them 4 down.

On the weekend while the wife and I were heading to Gananoque (Ont) we saw a huge motorhome towing an HHR on the 401, so it can be done.
