Transmission won't go into forward gear

The transmission only requires 6.7 quarts of Dexo VI . You probably have a burnt shift solenoid you don’t need a new transmission, just a new mechanic. You don’t need a new TCM .

That mechanic is a fraud. If you now have forward and reverse he probably disturbed some wires and/or blew a fuse. If not, then the fluid transfer pipe inside the transmission broke, the part is not very expensive the labor and fluid should be close to the same as a fluid change, just 4 more bolts.
8 quarts of trans fluid should have been pretty obvious on the ground under the car, that is the only place it could go.

TCM lost communication means a loose/disconnected/broken wire or a blown fuse. NOT new transmission or new TCM.

thank you for your input appreciate that I notice is very common in the hhr im in a few groups on fb and atlease 10 or more have had this same issue and it was indeed the cooler tubes in the pan I also just ran across a guy who said his pan was seal so he couldn't go in pan and he put whole nother transmission sound like the transmission place he went to want honest with him seems like if u not aware of them tubes then they will advice you your trans is gone when most time its them tube to common of a problem for the hhr now that im experience it will definitely ask the transmission place drop pan and check those tubes and send me a Pic of the tubes as well thanks again and glad I ran across this transmission box threat everyone is having the same issue im having right now

it definitely wasn't 8 quart more like a silver dollar sunday I notice it on the ground cause of the snow Monday is when the car stopped on me the mechanic found the upper transmission line leak he fixed it but now im almost sure those fluidtrans pipe you talking about not trans problems before this been had my baby 17 yrs

this is my exact same problem im having now upper cooler line broke and im going to find out today if my metal fluid pipe inside is broke off and loss pressure foe the foward gears praying this is my fix as well so many people have experience this same very problem im in several hhr groups on fb there is also a vidoe on YouTube about the metal pipes in trans most transmission places will tell you your trans is goin before they look to replace these pipes in trans

Some shops replace the pipes and resell your broken transmission as rebuilt!

it can also be the shift solenoids
