Welcome.

I don't understand. The shifter won't stop at D while traveling from R to 2? Or the transmission doesn't shift into 3rd and 4th gears when the shifter is in D?

Unhappy Transmission not shifting up

I have the same issue as above I believe.
I own a 2010 HHR with only 45k miles. I can shift the transmission with the shifter into 1st, then up to 2nd. If I start in D, it will go from 1 - 2 but not into Drive.
Any ideas that I can try in order to repair?

Unless you know how to work on automatic transmissions, go to a mechanic that does. It's more complicated to diagnose and repair. My guess is that one of the solenoids is stuck/broken; that requires at least partial disassembly.

You could look at the the shift cable and you might see something obviously wrong. You could check that the wiring harness between the trans and the Trans Control Module has a good connection at both ends and no frayed/burned/shorted wires.
The TCM is the smaller of the 2 modules in front of the underhood fuse box.

Hey Jvaz2000,

Glad you're reaching out here, but as donbrew said, if you'd like to have your shifting issue addressed by your local Chevrolet dealership, I would be happy to assist you with that. Just PM me with your VIN, preferred dealership and contact information and I'll share your concerns with them. They'll reach out to you to set up a service appointment.

Let me know if this is something you'd like to do. I'll be on the lookout for a message from you. Also, I'd be happy to assist if you have any additional questions.
