Unlock With Key- Stop The Beeping
Unlock With Key- Stop The Beeping
Hi All!
Until I can replace my non-functioning key fob for the 2006 HHR, I use the key to unlock the car. When I do that, the horn continuously beeps until I get in and turn the key on. After searching the manual, I could not find a way to disable the beeping. (Often I have to unlock when people are sleeping. Don't wish to wake them.)
Do any of you know if there is a way to disable the horn when the key is used to unlock the door?
Thanks For Helping,
Paul
PS: It might be a while until I get a fob. The fob is inexpensive, but the best price I've found to program it is $300.00. Yikes!

Dorman makes a key fob and programmer kit for the HHR.
You plug the programmer into the OBD II port and follow directions. I think it will program 3 key fobs and then deactivates the programmer. I have successfully used it in the past.
Check Dorman web site to be sure this is the right kit for the HHR (I'm pretty sure it is).
Price is $60 on Amazon or around $85 at local parts stores.

When you lock it don't use the lock button use your key. Locking with the fob or the "lock all" button activates the alarm, the key does not.
If you go the Dorman route get a genuine GM fob to go with the included fob. Many of the included fobs don't function properly.

Thanks Don Brew & Lonwane for the information about skipping the Lock button & using the key. It certainly did stop the beeping when I unlock.
