I was going to say something about that, Called hub centric wheel spacers. to keep wheel centered to hub. Ran into this when I had a 98 suburban. When the tires that came on it new were done had new wheels and tires but on. Drove out after install and went right back for wheel shake. They ck bal.again ect.ect. Then a customer having wheels put on his Truck came over to me and toll me about hub centric wheel spacers. He had his own to put on his new wheels. Got a set for my truck fixed that easy.

UNLESS, your aftermarket rims have oversized or too large lug holes, then I could see it not centering up when the lugs are tightened. In that case you would need the sleeve to keep it centered.
I never liked aftermarket rims with the elongated or enlarged lug holes.
I have always thought the same thing you said but I have to now back up and rethink this. The mechanic showed me the gap between the wheel center and the hub on the American Racing wheels and the lack of a gap on the stock wheels. With the American Racing I had the vibration. When we put the stock wheels back on there is NO vibration and that is all that was changed. The same lug nuts were used to mount both sets of wheels. They are ordering a set of spacers today or tomorrow from the place they got the wheels and then they will reinstall my Americans. The spacers look about like a bearing race, very simple.

They worked for me on my suburban then a friend had a 06 jeep with the same shake after new wheels. We got her a set and fixed the shake also. Some after market wheel lug hole are not at true center of the wheel center that why the hub centric work.

But you said in your first post, that the vibration was there with the original wheels.............. But you weren't concerned because you were going to be getting new wheels and tires in a few days.

Yeah sleeper, ya gotta be quicker ;-)

I am just not sold on this stuff about the hub centric rings, having had numerous vehicles over the years that had "sloppy loose" fits over the hubs, yet NEVER had a problem that would require hub centric rings. My last tire store fitted PLASTIC rings when they installed my new after market winter wheels saying they were necessary - PLASTIC!!! Like that would do any good - they found their way into the garbage. Did I encounter any vibration with or without the rings........ nope, cause it is the wheel nuts that center the wheel, and hold it all together. Whoops......... rant off - back on my meds!!! LOL Now if they are made of titanium or unobtanium, then that's a different story....

ps: sleeper - I went for a ride this eve - 70degs - sunshiney evening - made for a nice relaxing ride (even found a few corners to play with).

PS: whopper, thanks, rub it in about 70* & riding.. In the 90's here, later today promises to be heavy rains.. fun, fun..

You are correct, there was a small vibration before I changed the wheels. All I can attribute it to is that the original wheels must have needed balancing because when the dealer took the American wheels off and put the original wheels on he balanced the originals before they installed them. Now there is no vibration. I totaly agree with you about the rings...I have put an a lot of wheels on a lot of different vehicles and never used any centric rings. Never heard of "centric hub spacers". I doubt if I even looked at the hub fit. If the wheel fit on the lug studs it was a go. And maybe these rings will not fix the vibration, that is yet to be seen. I am only going by what they told me and what I read when I googled 'centric hub rings'. All I can tell you for sure is that with the stock wheels, freshly balanced, there is zero vibration. I am supposed to go later today and have the Americans w/centric spacers put on so I can tell you then if they work or not. Perhaps the vibration will still be there and it will turn out that one or all ther wheels have some mfg. flaw or one of the tires is slightly 'out of round', either of which I would believe before I would think I needed some spacers on the hubs. Time will tell, I'll wait and see if they work before I debunk them...
