Warning lights after tire rotation
Warning lights after tire rotation
This is my first posting, so here goes. I had my tires rotated Saturday, and when I left the dealers, the car shifted very hard. I looked at the dash and the "check engine" and "traction control" warning lights were on. U-turn back to the dealers where I was told that the mechanic failed to reset the computer after the tire rotation. I was informed that the wheels contain the triggers for the sensors that monitor tire rotation. The dealer told me that any time the wheels are removed for rotation or to mount the spare, I'll have to have the computer reset. Any truth to this?

I had a tire sidewall cut in August when leaving for a trip. Had the bad wheel taken off, spare put on, tire replaced (not at a GM dealer) and put back on. I never saw any warning lights and noone reset any computer settings.
Sounds a little strange.

We've had the tires rotated 4 times now between our 2 and no warnings or need to re-set.
Find another dealer for servicing your car from now on. Shops like that are the ones which give the industry a bad name. I would also report them to GM Customer Service.

Just talked to Chevy Customer Assistance. They refered me to the pages in my owners manual that discuss the Check Engine Light and the Enhanced Traction System Warning Light. I asked what that had to do with the warning lights comming on after a tire rotation, but got no answer. I was told that the dealers are the "experts" at answering technical questions. I told him that if the dealers were the experts, I wouldn't have called Customer Assistance to try to figure out what happenrd to my HHR.
