Warranty & Magnuson Moss Warranty Act
Legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle (per the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)) . For best results, consider working with performance-oriented dealerships with a proven history of working with customers. If your vehicle manufacturer fails to honor emission/warranty claims, contact EPA at

Ok I'm confused, they wanted to void my warranty due to a catted downpiping and intercooler and said that caused the piston rings to go. We all know that's bs and it was written on their paperwork to say those and the stage kit caused it.
Another dealer desided to cover the repair under a good customer / onetime repair for the engine. I also put the car back to stock before it went to the dealer. So did they have the right to drop my warranty or was it a dealer discretion? Chevymnger can you check my vin agin and see if my warranty for powertrain was voided?

Man then I think these dealers are just pulling me for a trip or something. do they have internal "shop" warranties? And can do what they want? I was open about my previous mods to the service manager and he worked with me on it and said he too did not believe anything I did with those parts cause this piston rings to break.

When we send the Tech2 snap shot of programs in the ECM to PQC, before they will authorize major powertrain repairs, they will tell us if they are denying warranty and within 3 days the GM system will show a voided warranty on all powertrain repairs.
Once that is posted to the VIN the only way to get a powertrain repair is by a dealer too stupid to read the GMVIS prior to repairs. The owner will get their car fixed and the dealer will get a rejected claim and get to eat it.
