Anyone else have this issue? It rained yesterday when I was at work and now the insulation is soaked at the bottom in the area in front of the drivers and passengers door. Is this normal? I'm surprised the insulation is exposed and not covered by something. Thank goodness the water did not get inside (carpet is completely dry)

 

I thought the same thing when I when I installed flaps back in Jan and it was all frozen. Seem to be dumb design.

 

I don't agree with the idea or design, but GM says the insulation being wet will cause no harm.

 

ive noticed mine wet before when washing the car
but never does ne harm.
oh well.

 

What happens in the winter when the wet insulation freezes?

What I was wondering about is the effect that as things freeze they tend to expand and as the sheet metal seems pretty thin, does it deform or effect the door/jamb?

 

You know, I really can't provide an accurate assessment.....I live in AZ....no freezes here, to speak of.

But, the HHR has been out for 3 years and nobody to my knowledge, from the colder climates, has complained of a problem with the wet insulation freezing and causing any problems.

But the GM people I spoke to (a year or 2 ago), indicated that durability testing had provided no problems with the insulation. It also has some type of anti microbal product to prevent molding.

All GM vehicles had some type of insulation product placed strategically in the body panels. It reduces road noise. My Vette, for example, has foam between several of the plastic panels. The wifes previous Caddy had some in thequarters and front fenders, pillars. Just examples to ease your concern.

 

The water runs down the windshield and inside the front fenders to wet the insulation. I was stunned when I noticed this. I guess it is open enough to dry and not rust the fenders.

 

I have never had a problem with the insulation, but the water that runs down the windshield and then inside the fender tends to puddle and freeze on the running board. Sometimes it builds up enough to interfere with the door opening properly.
