is this what the timing chain and top guide are suppose to look like ?
I got the valve cover off. Oh boy this is a lot worse than it sounded ! Back at it tomorrow for a few hours.https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...81dcd7af56.jpg

You need at least a timing set! The chain should not have any slack in it. I bet it was noisy.
|
Oh yes! I was being a lil sarcastic
I am doing the chain, balancer, waterpump guides and whatever else I come across. It did not seem that noisey...guess I did not know
|
Looks like the front guide has broken. |
Actually the front guide and bolt were in good shape. The bolt was just slightly bent but, will be replaced with the dorman bolt. Now I wish I would of done more research on the water pump...holy spickoly :)

At least you caught this before it jumped time. Good luck and dont forget to reactivate the tensioner. There are two versions, the newer having a dome in the middle of the bolt head.
|
The "new" version is the one that comes on VVT engines.
|
Good luck, bro! This is why I don't have a nice thing to play with any more. Timing chain jumped 2 links, and grenaded the engine. Apparently, the LNF can jump one and still run at a degraded level.
