Anyone Autocross or road raced(SCCA) their HHR?
Best test of handling/power is turning right and left at speed.
Anyone tried their HHR at this type of event yet? |
No, but I'd like to try. I used to AutoX my Corvair back in Florida, and it was a blast. I don't know if I'd want to do it in an automatic, but it'd be fun to toss around my brand new car and slay some cones. :)

Have not done the HHR yet, but did a Cobalt SS Automatic at a driving compitition GM did called "Rev it up Racing". Stick would be the only way to go.

I was thinking of posting the same thread, I used to autocross my 82 Z28, took a few fast time of day awards. but would like to slap some R compounds on the HHR and do some stomp and steer.

I ran a Datsun 510 and 1200 years ago and miss it, but don't think an HHR would be competitive against anything but another HHR. maybe we can do an autocross at the Nationals?

How 'bout a SS?
I use to go to the autocross' around here in the early 70's when it was pretty popular and watch my buddy's run their Saab's, Mini's, Sprites etc. I had a new Vette (automatic, legs shot up in Nam) and they goaded me to try it out. I was doing ok even though it was a real tight course at the brewery and then while sawing at the wheel a finger got caught in one of the holes in the steering wheel. Lucky I didn't break a finger.
I test drove a HHR SS last night. I was impressed on it's handling and I think it would be a hoot to try to kill a few cones with one.:one: |
We did some cone dodgin here in Tucson. Took the HHR once. At the time I had Gold Lines generation 1 springs and 18's. Did just as good as a Cobalt SC coupe with a bad driver. I was impressed. The fact that I don't have a sunroof probably helped though.

I think the HHR would hold its own even in stock trim. Brakes would be the issue the stock front rotors would be toasted by the end of a run.

I would not dare to take an HHR in stock form on the track. Way too much lean. Not to say it can't be done, just wouldn't be much fun I wouldn't think. I did pass an Enterprise rented Aveo at Roebling Road a couple weeks ago. That was interesting to see. |
