Have you looked into STS turbos? They have a universal kit that I saw mocked up in a cobalt. Clams to take a motor with 190hp to around 300hp. Here is their link: http://www.ststurbo.com/home

It wont be an easy swap but, there have been several car shows that have put a V-8 in an HHR. Of course they also had the time and many to convert it to rear-wheel drive.

biggest engine that will "bolt in" to the HHR isn't the most powerful.. the big power makers are the smallest displacement right now. The 2.0's are making either 205 with a supercharged app or 260 with the turbo app. The "big block" ecotecs are 2.4L and make around 170-175. So bigger isn't always better.... a friend of mine says

Turbo/Supercharger = replacement for displacement...

The 2.4 uses the same block as the 2.0 DI Turbo engine with a longer stroke to make more usable low-end torque for everyday driving. All things being equal, if you had 2.4 liter displacement on the DI engine, you'd make more power. You'd also being running racing fuel and using an 0-ringed block to deal with the higher compression.

Speed or Gas milage

i bought my HHR because of the looks, safety features, and gas milage. If I wanted more HP, I would have bought something with more HP (like the Mustang Cobra). But will agree about, a turbo would be sweet to have for times

But then my days of speed are out of me.

Thumbs up

I think adding a Blown 572 in the back would make a cool wheel stander for getting the groceries Quickly !!!!!

go to the ecotec forum you can build out the 2.2 or 2.4 to 300 hp but you will basically be replacing all internals. ALso there is a manual on how to do it.

The manual is available from GM and you can get 1100hp out of these motors, but that is an all out racer. The GM book lists part numbers and specs. If you go to an NHRA race, they may have the book in the GM Performance booth.

There is a 19 yr old girl here in So.Cal that runs a non-turbo unblown Cobalt. 2 years ago I saw her run 11.20 sec in the 1/4 at Pomona. The car sounds sweet. Talked to her father and he was going to super charge it. They were shooting for 9 second e.t.'s.

She runs most Tursday evenings at Irwindale raceway street drags.

So.Cal. Speed Shop ran an HHR at B'ville, but at 249mph it went airborn. They have built a few Eco motors and gone real fast.
