BSR/PPC Tune & Dyno at Hahn Racecraft

I just returned home from my trip to Hahn Racecraft for an afternoon of dyno testing on Friday where they did before and after dyno runs and road testing. They have my 07 GXP Solstice at there shop doing a turbo upgrade, and other goodies.

First I would like to thank Bill Hahn Jr. for taking the time to stop working on his other projects and spending the afternoon with me and also for letting Aaron work with us on all the testing. I was there for 4+ hours and I think it just shows how interested and involved they are in the HHR SS. I know Bill spends a lot of time on the phones with his customers and so does Aaron, but I know when Bill posts the dyno results you will all be impressed. Again a big thankyou guys, it was great.

Now on to the good stuff. I have to agree with everything that crazysteve and c2vette have said about the tune. IT IS AWSOME!!
I can remember when we first put the BSR tune in my Solstice GXP and I couldn't beleive the difference in how the car preformed. It was like going from a standard Solstice to the GXP. The increase in power is amazing and it is really cool to stand on it in low gear and when the turbo boost comes in and the tires break loose it just reminds me of my old 69 bigblock Camaro. This car is a real blast to drive and again I am very impressed with the BSR tune and it has to be the best bang for the buck....

I drove the car home, 300 miles ( only with a lot more boost ) the same as I did on the way up to try and compare gas millage. On the way up the avg was 31 without the air on and on the way home it was 32 with the air on. So for the guys that are worring about the tune causing it to use more gas I would say it will do the same if not better IF YOU CAN KEEP YOUR FOOT OUT OF IT which was really hard with all the new power. Know I can go out and play and see what this car will really do.

My car is a 5-speed. Also with the tune in 1st and 2nd the rev limiter is set at 7000 rpm. This really helps and the car will run up to 70 mph in second.

Again I wish to thank Bill and Aaron for a very fun filled afternoon.

Aha! and I thought it was just that my reaction times (to the shift light) had improved. Thank you for sharing your experience.

What turbo is being used? I did some quick math and the Mitsu 16g looks like it's in the right range for the stock motor. I'd be interested to hear from Bill or others who may be running bigger than that, and what the streetability would be in the higher CFM range (20g, hybrids like the "18g," T28, etc.).

Thank you too, Paul. You are one true believer in the Ecotec LNF Turbo! It's a pleasure to work with people who are so enthusiastic. I am gratified that your HHR SS is working out so well!

We are using our time-honored Mitsubishi Super 20G. It's a great performer in the 300-450 engine HP range. We recently developed a turbosystem for the 2.0 Ecotec in Cobalt with this unit and saw a very satisfying 320-360 WHP in the 15-22 PSI boost range, still on pump gas! Super 20G is noted for very broad power delivery and quite satisfying low- to mid-range power. Yet it can still deliver over 400 WHP when pushed hard!

16G is decent, but begins to fall off in efficiency above 350 HP, which makes it only an incremental improvement over the stock Borg-Warner turbo.

Yummy! This is what I like to hear... and with the 20g, you don't get hung up on the limitations of the 16g's internal wastegate. So... I haven't even gotten my tune yet, and I'm already "spending" on a nice 20g-based upgrade. Definitely keep us posted on what kind of "kit" you build up for us.

turbo wantabe did you guys have the car after the tune want to cut boost after about 5500rpm....we had that issue...but it does not do it on the street.

I have to agree with you on that. It showed on the dyno sheets that it falls off at that rpm. It seems to do it the most in 4th gear. Bill said the factory does that to make the motor last so BSR must follow there setup, and it doesn't seem to bother it on the street. I really love how quick the boost starts to build. It starts making boost a lot quicker and man does it pull hard. The whole car seems to perform so much smoother and it is so much fun to drive hard. It pulls 23 to 24 lbs. and I just love to roast the tires in 1st and 2nd. It still amazes me how this tune brings this motor to life.

Assuming you can keep your foot out of it for any length of time, (maybe abad assumption) I would be interested to see if you notice a MPG improvement. I had never been able to get better than 31 mpg, and now for steady 65 mph on the same commute I get pretty consistent 32.5 mpg (not averaging in any slow, stop and go driving). I am thinking it may be better optimized for higher octane than the factory tune. Other comment is that I would like to see 3rd gear rev limit upped to 7000, as you have to shift to 4th at about the 1100 ft mark as it is now.
