Problems/Service/RepairsIf you have a problem with your HHR, want a tip on repairing or performing a particular service to you HHR here is the place to post!
The reluctor ring is part of the camshaft. It cannot be replaced. There is a 1 in 1,000,000,000,000 chance that it may have slipped, if the camshaft got heated to about 1,000 F.
If it is making all of that noise something was installed incorrectly. Here is a new place to look: the flex pipe could be cracked.
Yes. In all my years on this forum, I don't recall anyone with a camshaft reluctor ring problem. I'm still thinking there could be a timing chain installation error.
Now, if you're determined that it has to be that ring, then give this link a read. Post #26. I'm not familiar with this. Just stumbled across it using our Search function. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/prob...d-23231/page3/
But, FMG , that pertains to 2008 and 2009 HHR, the OP has a 2010.
While it is possible, I’m thinking it has something to do with the install.
It also states Code P0016, P0017 would repeat!
No mention of any codes
I believe the issue is with the balance shaft chain, and the VVT sprockets.
The cam rings are not a usual suspect, and there would be a code for that.
I recommend you call that shop and explain the problem, you can’t drive it there, if they’re a reputable shop they should fix their mistake
Just an after thought, check the upper motor mount, if it’s loose or just plain shot , it’ll make a lot of noise.
You just rang the bell in my old brain. This old age IS NOT what it's cracked up to be.It is throwing a Code 16.How that slipped my mind I don't know. I doubt I would trust them with mechanical work again. They are one of the best body shops around, but from this I wouldn't let them do a push mower. This is only the second time I had someone other than me work on a vehicle of mine.I had started the car and listened to the noise the day we brought it back and it sounds like it is under the timing chain cover. It was a low noise when we picked the car up.They said add SeaFoam to it.Got that, put it in.Drove 10 miles home and it got louder. Also it stalled 4 or 5 times and almost didn't start. It stumbled on acceleration from a light, then smoothed out as it took off.Thank you for your help.I will still check the motor mount.
No FMG , sorry I just read the top part, as it states models effected.
I’m a wrench not a professor
So, we have some information, that is a code, P0016, the timing chain is off a tooth or two.
This has happened to me , and it’s simple to repair, just hard to get at.
Appreciate all the help from everyone. I sent an email to the shop owner. I know he won't do anything about it. I wasted over $500 in labor costs alone.Learned my lesson. Thanks to all. I have a guy I know that is a good mechanic and cheap. Does it on the side for extra cash.If my health was better, and if we had a garage I'd do it myself.
