Well, there have been a few that have went custom. One thing to consider, the new knob would need a mechanical button for reverse lock out. Like the stock knob.

I wouldn't advise by-passing the lock out. Have you looked in the archives ?

A former member CJ did a cool billet pistol grip on his '06 automatic, it had the button as well.

That button seems to be what makes it hard to find a custom one. The only replacement knob that ive seen in a search is the Dorman plastic one

With Oldblue, I followed a thread for a custom shifter and fabbed up this,




Press down on the handle to release the shifter lock



Custom shifter knob from American Shifters



A threaded rod fits into a housing of copper plumbing pipe



Custom engraved knob



It fits down of the OEM shifter



The top end , a pipe nipple.



Then a pipe coupler, soldered onto 1/2 copper pipe



The inner threaded shaft

Yes, I just push down to disengage the lockout
