I have this type of problems at shows, been to about 8 this year, no trophies to show for it. The last show, I lost out to a bone stock 2007 Saturn Sky that had a computer tune.
Who knows why people vote the way they do. I noticed black HHR's always seem to get a lot of votes

At car shows, where my car is seen in person, I get a lot of attention. I have won several trophies, including best in class and I even won a peer's choice award. Twenty cars out of everybody in the show were chosen, and I was one of them. In my case, I think people in our forums are turned off by the flames on my car. To be honest, they were not what I had in mind and are a bit gaudy for my taste. I kept them on for the past 3 years but plan on removing them soon when I have the car in the body shop for some minor ding repair and to cover all of the holes for the various factory and dealer installed accessories that I removed (antenna, rear wiper, luggage rack, and spoiler). I like the yellow against the red, but am going a bit more conservative now, probably with some nice pinstriping. Perhaps a small thunderbolt or two so I can keep with the 'Flash' theme. But I dont want to have to redo my wheels and brake calipers and other accents, which are painted yellow.
As the car is now, if you saw it in real life you would see that it really stands out. I love looking at it parked on the street or in a lot. It really pops.

Man no hard feelings at all, but in my earlier posts when i said "or where the car/owner are from?"....did I address that to you at all? Well obviously you thought I did and you must of felt some guilt for saying this....
"But for anyone to insinuate that I received votes because of my location is total B.S."... And I thought it was crazy you said that when ASF9 basically said her favorite is Black and Chrome but you were getting her vote because you're from Oakland. Hey its her vote and its perfectly fine for her to vote however she wants, rather if its she likes your HHR the best, your pics, where your from or if yall or friends or any combination of those. But for you to go and say its B.S. for anyone to believe thats why you got votes, when in fact my statement wasnt even addressed to you, because of where your from and there be written proof in other threads of this....now that is B.S. and not any different than lying in the first place, and I can't stand liars so I thought I would bring it up. Again no offense or hard feelings. I think your panel is very clean and slick. Your suspension, shaved rear door and color matching bowties make your its very own and I think its super slick....Keep the mods coming and keep DLVRN us pics of the progress...
CHEVYMGR, well said, people are going to all vote on different things. Rather its just the car in general, the quality of the pics, where the pics have been taken, if the person personally knows them, if they are from the same state as they are, if they vote for the person with the least votes just to boost their confidence, the list goes on and on....and the difficult thing is some people will alter their vote month to month based on different circumstances...
NOW, personally, here is how I vote. From the official voting thread, I scan through the main pics for each person runnin on the opening page. I pick the one that appeals to me the most based on looks of the car, I even ask myself if I had to pick a car to personally drive between the 3-6 HHRs which one would it be? This is 75% to sometimes 100% of my vote. If there is just one that stands out among the others well that more than likely gonna be the one who gets my vote. If there are 2 or more that I cant pick between, this is when I click on the pic and then look at all the pics they have submitted. Next, I dont take in quality of the pics so much because I know not everyone can go dump hundreds to thousands of dollars into a camera as I do location and scenery and how creative the pics actualy are. Normally after doing this I always am able to decide who I am going to vote for. I havent ran into a way to go further along into it if I still cant decide by this point. But again sorry if anyone took my comments, my prior comments, heck, any comments I have stated in my 279 posts so far personally. As I see it we are all here because one reason, because we all have 1 thing in common, and that is because we have or used to have a HHR. So that one reason alone automatically makes us all alike....I just ask from the people who do vote month to month, please just keep voting the same way every month, dont change your reasoning. For example when December comes up to vote, dont not vote for another SS no matter what color it is, even if its your favorite submission for that month, because a SS won the previous month. Dont not vote for a Black HHR, even if its your favorite submission for that month, because a Black HHR won the previous month. Just pick out the HHR you originally liked the best and stick with it. Sorry for the long post.....
GeeWiz andrew.. u wanna type any more to that novel you started..
i hear your point though. i think we should just vote how we wanna vote, but do keep your personal voting standards the same. everyone just have fun. its just to get some recognition on peoples cars.
You don't need a digital SLR to take great photos, it helps, but you don't need it. You can take great photos with a camera that cost $150 or less if you want to. The main thing is to just learn technique and how to really use the camera (opposed to just clicking the button). If people (and not talking about HHR people, talking about ALL people) would read up a bit and learn how to use their cameras to the fullest extent, and learn about lighting, you can do great things with them. If people just took this little bit of time and learned how to get their cameras off the "auto" mode, their photos of their car and everything else they want to photograph will improve immensely.
I have a little sony point and shoot that I got on sale for $140 last year, and if you adjust it correctly it can take amazing photos. Yeah, I prefer to use my work SLR, but i also hate carrying it.
It is a free country, and people can vote for whomever they want to. Same as for the presidential elections we just had. While voters are supposed to select the candidate they feel is most qualified to run our great country, a lot of people simply vote for the person of the same party they are registered as (Democrat) or by the color of their skin or by a particular special interest group's recommendation. Same goes for our friendly competition. The name of the contest is 'Featured HHR of the Month'. In theory, that should mean the vehicle that the voter likes the best, for what ever reason they prefer. I know some people that believe cars should remain stock, since that is the way the engineers designed them to be. There are classes at some car shows for perfectly restored automobiles. Any modifications are considered bad.
Obviously, I do not share that belief system. I have always modified my vehicles to suit my unique and individual preferences. Some of my friends change their cars every few years. I prefer to keep the same car and just adapt it to my needs. My challange is to think up ideas that nobody else has thought of yet. (I am very proud of an idea that I am implementing on the race car I am building. Most people have 2 buttons-one on the shifter and one on the steering wheel for the trans brake and the linelock. I am using a DPDT switch so I will only need one button. None of the race car drivers I know have ever thought of doing this, but they all like the idea.)
When I vote for the HHR of the month, I look for the most creatively done car. Color is not a big deciding factor for me. But I like seeing how innovative the owner is and how much effort he or she put into planning and working on his or her car. If there are 2 that I like, then I pick the one that is photographed the best.

I take into consideration everything. Background, foreground, focus, light, color, and quality, etc. I also keep in mind not everyone is a great photographer but anyone take takes pics of something. I try not to let my personal likes and dislikes get in the way to much, they will no matter what. I am not a fan of huge decals, crazy vinyl, and chrome. Those dislikes will effect my decision, but I try to keep it separate. I think the overall vote for Featured HHR should incorporate many of the things I listed above, but I realize not everyone thinks like that.
I vote for the one that looks best......
I vote for the one that looks best to me. To me when you add a whole bunch of chrome, stripes, trim pieces etc it just makes it look "Ghetto" to me. To some people the more junk they put on it the better they like it, as long as THEY like it then they are happy. It is not the style I like though. I do not make modifications just to make them I want them to make the car better for my needs or the look I want.
I do not care too much about the quality of the pictures but if you have a decent car with most of the picture taken up by the dump truck beside it or kid picking his nose then do not expect it to win anything.
You do not have to spend a bunch of money on a camera to get good pictures but you do have to work at it to get the light and settings right.
If you are taking a snap shot you can take it in your driveway or where ever. If you want pictures that will win car of the month you want it someplace with a nice background but not too distracting. You want your car to be the focal point of the picture. If you put a beautiful blonde in front of the car people may not even know there is a car in the picture. The light and the camera settings must be right and you have to get several good angles.
I have voted for a car twice that I did not think would not win because he did not have good quaility pictures. I had seen the car in person and know how nice it is and it is definatly nice enough to win. For most of we only have the pictures you present to base our vote on so put your best pictures up there.
Maybe we should start a thread on how to get good quality pictures. Curly
