PM Spamming Significant Increase
 

Hey Y'all, I'm just wondering if there is a reason behind the significant increase in PM spamming on this forum lately?

As a member here for almost 4 years I think I recall having received 2 or 3 PM spams prior to the start of this year.

So far this year I've received 4 PM spams.

Are these guys just becoming better able to get past "security measures" or have "security standards" been in decline?

The flaw is that you can send a PM before you are activated to post in forums. Hillsdale and I try to monitor the new members to see if they are legit, but if we miss them SindyDix catches them before she activates their membership.

Please forward any PM spam to a moderator so we can ban the user. Thanks.

I don't even open these messages for fear that something terrible might be "lurking" inside.

There doesn't seem to be any way of forwarding a message without opening it.

Is the automatic PM allowance something that is built into this forum setup which can't be controlled or disabled?

I have been receiving two a day...

And ANR is kind enough to forward them to me so I can ban them. Please help us out by doing the same.

I can't tell you how many members would never have been activated if they couldn't send the mods PMs on their troubles getting their account activated. They need to be able to PM us.

Yeah, I recently posted on the same thread that Calgaryhhr did and I'm receiving spam for the first time from this forum

I almost got yanniick849 before he sent a PM, the others I got from site members sending me PMs.

If you don't want to forward the PM spam to a Mod, post their user name here and we will take care of them. Sorry for the hassles but it's the internet you know.

I've been getting quite a few from this creep "HillsdaleHHR" quite a bit too...

Note:...Not bragging, but I have not received any PM SPAMS. So, how are they selective ....why do some get them and some don't ???

Reminder that when these people start spamming in PMs they can only send it to 5 members at a time. If you happen to be on when they are they may see your name in the "Who's Online" and use that as a template on who to send them to. This is still much better than before when they were actually posting crap in the threads. And as ChevyMgr stated, when we are online we check whose online as well and can sometimes catch them as they are registering.

Eric, if I spammed you anything the material would have damaged your mind :D but since I haven't spammed you I have to ask, WHAT HAPPENED? :p:

For those of you that wish added protection you can always edit your options in your "User CP" under Edit Options / Messaging and Notification / Private Messaging to only allow Contacts and Moderators to PM you. This will allow only the moderators and the members that you have approved or contacted via Friendship Requests the ability to PM you.

It's in Bangladesh.

Hey I got that one also! Glad I got to be part of the group..... just did not want to be part of this particular group..... I deleted before I could forward it to anyone, sorry.

GOt another one. from different person this time LadyAdministrator I forwarded it on too.

Said spammer has been at it for over an hour.:roll: Probably has sent over 500 PMs by this time.:eek:

Maybe there needs to be some sort of "after hours" monitor.:confused:

The frequency and quantity should be greatly reduced now. If you continue to get them, let us know and we'll zap 'em!

Just deleted one from LadyAdministrator also. Thanx for the heads up.

Looks good so far. I haven't received any new spams since Saturday evening. This is much better and greatly appreciated.
