2010 W/OnStar here. My year is almost up, and I don't plan to renew my OnStar, and I just cancelled my XM subscription, so I really would like to get rid of the factory system.

I plan on throwing some kind of Double-Din touch screen in it, haven't decided which one yet, but I started looking into the installation process and every place I go to on the net says they don't have a wiring harness for "OnStar Equipped" HHR's. Do I have to get a special adapter for the wiring or can I just get the standard adapter?

I'm simply not shelling out $50-$150 to have someone else install it, when I've done it myself in every vehicle I've owned until now. I've googled quite a bit for some install how-to's and the only thing I can find is how to remove the bezel and radio.

 

I'm not sure about a '10, but Crutchfield lists an adapter for my '09. Check them out.

Ok, I appreciate that. Didn't realize I would lose chimes/turn signals by just hardwiring the speakers to the new head unit. That's a little disappointing, gotta spend $75 for an adapter...

 

I installed my Pioneer unit with a Scosche GM13SR module to keep chimes and turn signal sound (no onstar). I'm very pleased with it, bought it on ebay for around $45 I think. Look for a seller with a "make offer" option.

Instructions recommend a relay to power DDIN touchscreens, cool thing is that it came with the relay already wired up and ready to go. I think they started selling them that way since they probably had a lot of them burn up.

 

I completely bypassed it and used a normal harness. I just simply dont hear the blinkers click and whatnot. I paid $20 for my harness. Onstar doesnt work but the new radio works beautifull

 

I'm not so much worried about the turn signal clicks, but the warning chimes I still need. The information line doesn't get my attention at all, and when I'm driving around working, the last thing I'm worried about is fuel, so I need that chime to get my attention.

 

do you have a link to the one you used? did you have to cut any factory wires or it plugged right into the factory harness? me, stupidly, bought the lan-03, but i never use onstar (its expiring in march as well) and i didnt add the extra relay for my blinkers, nor do i hear the chimes becuase i have all after market speakers powered by an aftermarket amp, so spending $125 on the adapter was a mistake on my part

 

Hi - I was wondering what you are doing with you old factory radio - I have a 2008 LS with the base radio - I am looking to upgrade - would you sell the old radio and do you know if my Onstar will would and do I need any additional stuff to make the XM radion work?

 

Actually I plan on trading/selling my HHR sometime this year and am planning to put the factory system back in before then. Selling a newer GM product with non-working ON-Star isn't a really good selling point.
