I have a 2009 HHR with 150,000 miles. Can I use 5W40 in my car.

Why? The recommended weight is 5W30.

I made this post because I have some 5W40 in my garage and just wanted to know if I could use it in my car. I wanted to get rid of it.

I wouldn't use it for the long run, but for 1 cycle it shouldn't hurt. If you suddenly get a CEL, that is probably the cause, the VVT valves are not comfortable with the higher weight.

Thank you Donbrew. I think I'll pass from using it at all. Appreciate the comment.
