The FelPro seals leaked last 2 x I installed them, I replaced them with GM seal, no more leaking.

HHR SS weird noise, sounds like valve train

HELP!! 2008 HHR SS
First a little history. Turbo went out as wife was driving from Dallas to California. Shop replaced turbo in New Mexico. She continues to California, then drives home. I then drive it a couple blocks to get an inspection sticker, when I return home I realize it has now developed a significant oil leak. Upon removing the intercooler tube, I broke the PCV valve. Found the leak was coming from the timing chain tensioner on the back of the engine. I put a torque wrench on it and 55 ft/lbs did not budge it. I turned it a little tighter, 1/8 to 1/4 turn. Oil leak stopped. Replaced broken pcv, put everything back and now the valve train has a little unusual rattle. I know that the 2.0L sounds extra rattley anyways, but this is something different.

I've merged your 3 threads. Each new thread was a continuation of the discussion in the previous thread.

I would investigate that as a potential timing chain problem. Start by removing the valve cover and inspecting. While it’s open is chance to replace the cam chain tensioner (the one that was leaking,) with a nice new-stock OEM one. There were problems even with OEM ones, and there are some bad generic ones out there.

from the pic, that tensioner does appear to be one of the updated designs. Because it’s a 2008, I don’t think it’s the original.

That style tensioner was installed in all years with VVT the flat ones were installed on the non VVT engines.

Interesting. So, every 2.4, starting in 2006, and every 2.0 turbo, starting in 2008, had the newest style tensioner.
