2008 Yaw Sensor
2008 Yaw Sensor
My son's 2008 SS is giving the "ABS", "TRACTION CONTROL" and SERVICE STABILITY SYSTEM" warnings.
This has always been a bad ABS sensor or sensor wiring on all the GM cars I have.
This time, the code reader says there is a problem with the yaw sensor.
I am going to check the connectors, etc before I buy a new Yaw sensor.
I found out that the 2008 HHR uses a different yaw sensor from the 2009-2011 HHRs. Rock Auto has the 2009-2011 HHR yaw sensors, but the 2008 yaw sensor is out of stock.
Looking online, GM as discontinued the 2008 Yaw sensor and the only one made now is by WVE. However, nobody has it in stock.
I found out that the 2008 HHR yaw sensor is also used in the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky. The Solstice forum speaks of this yaw sensor, which is apparently problematic and very hard to find.
Anyone have any ideas?
Hellshotrod, do you have any 2008 HHRs with the sensor still there?
Also, where is the sensor located. I only have a service manual for the 2006 HHR, which doesn't have Stability Control.
Thanks
Steve

The code is C0196, which is shown as "Yaw Rate Circuit Malfunction".
I was reading some posts on the Pontiac Solstice forum (the Sol and Sky use the same yaw sensor) and there are a bunch of people who had issues with moisture getting into the Yaw Sensor connector and causing problems. Apparently, according to them, the moisture affects the sensor output and gives bad data. It's not necessarily a corroded connector, just the presence of the moisture affects the output. Several of them bought new yaw sensors, which did not solve the problem until they removed the moisture in the connector. That's why I want to check the connector and wiring first. Also, if this was a $50 sensor I wouldn't mind buying one to see if the sensor is bad first, but since the sensor is several hundred dollars (when you can get it) I don't want to spend the $$$.
Where is the other end of the yaw sensor wiring, at the BCM. PCM, or EBCM?
Since I now have 3 HHR SSs (and a less-than-useful 2006 factory service manual), I am tempted to buy a factory service manual that includes the SS model. Unfortunately, I have a 2008 and two 2009s so I don't know which manual would be better 2008 or 2009. Not both because the set for one year is almost $300.

For the 5A I found this but it’s not for the HHR SS , but GM
