Question AIRBAG lite

airbag light came on. anyone know a way to scan for codes or find out the problem ourselves, without having to go to dealer?

There are a couple of commonish things "airbag light" in the search should give a few connector locations to look at.

Otherwise, a scantool capable of reading airbags is the ONLY real way.

A few years back, you probably could have taken it to your local Autoparts store to have them scan it, but nowdays, you may HAVE to go to a dealer. Most Autoparts stores won't scan for ABS or Airbag codes anymore.

They don't want to deal with the legal issues.

You can get air bag codes read but it requires someone with a high end scan tool. The inexpensive code reader in most cases will only read emission codes.

There is a recall on the pass side airbag harness. Might be worth looking into.

well, the light turned off on it's own. must be acting up due to the severe cold , -4 right now in Chicago. funny, the day the light turns on is the same day I get a letter in the mail from chevy that says they will replace an airbag harness connector due to fretting corrosion on the terminals.

Don't clear any codes, or disconnect your battery, to keep any codes stored.
Take the HHR into your dealer and take that letter with you of course.
