Anybody Installed a Complete Rear SS axle under a LT???
Anybody Installed a Complete Rear SS axle under a LT???
Anybody installed a complete rear axle from a SS over on to a LT truck??What all involved? Will it work??Any problems on the brake booster??Brembos??
How much mods will have to be be performed to make it fit??Are all of the brackets the same??I was told it was a easy install. Will Brembo's fit from a Colbalt on a SS on all 4 corners??Has anyone done this??I'm sure someone has??Will I have to also have the Brake booster from a SS ??Are the brake booster's the same??
Any feedback would be GREATLY appericated!!

the rear axle is the same.
putting Brembos on the rear is a waste of time & money.
if you want to upgrade the rear suspension & brakes on your LT wagon...... paint the calipers, get a nice pad/rotor combo, stainless lines, HHR SS stock shocks & springs and a Powell Race Shop 1" street bar

Rear axle/Brakes
I have drum brakes on the rear of my LT now.The SS has disc. brakes on the rear.So with being said the axles are not the same.Just was wondering if anyone took a complete SS rear axle and installed it under a LT ??I'm thinking the mounting bolt up is the same. I don't think anyone has done this!!
Except for the caliper mounts the axles are the same, so it's a bolt on. There's a few old threads about this on the forum if you dig for them.... the main thread, most of the photos are missing, but it's been done before.

there are companies that sell rear disc brake conversions for LS/LT Cobalts, they'll work for your HHR LT. you could get lucky and find a wrecked SS in a junkyard you can snag the rear brake setup from or the entire axle if you really want to do all that. swapping out a rear axle assembly, would be easy, i've dropped a bunch out before to remove catback exhausts in one piece.... but it may be cheaper to just do the brakes. pick up a phone and start making some calls. good luck.
They are the same EXCEPT for the welded-on caliper brackets. So if you want to use GM brakes, you must fabricate & weld brackets onto your existing axle assy. An aftermarket kit will include either bolt-on or weld-on caliper brackets.
If you're especially handy, you could fab up your own brackets & have at it!
